This Is Where They Build Dreams
April 23rd 2009 04:43
First a few questions for my loyal readers to see if this article will appeal to you. Do you believe that one of the most beautiful places on Earth is a freshly mowed baseball field? Does your dream job now belong to the guy who puts the chalk lines down before each game? Do you suffer from the baseball fan's delusion each spring that the aging utility middle infielder that your favorite team has claimed off waivers is the key to a championship season? Did you answer yes to these questions? Then you would appreciate what I am about to share.
I JUST VISITED THE LOUISVILLE SLUGGER MUSEUM IN LOUISVILLE!
If there were any doubt that you were at the museum then the giant bat leaning against the building would confirm it, you had arrived at one of the must sees for baseball lovers.
The museum has just opened a new interactive portion of the museum with tons of hands on activities and a video featuring some of the greatest players in baseball history singing the praise of The Slugger. You can also travel back in time by viewing Babe Ruth's bat that he used to belt out sixty home runs in the infamous 1927 season. Also in this section is Joe Dimaggio's signature wooden beauty that helped guide "Joltin Joe" to his still record fifty-six game hitting streak in 1941.
If you are blessed to make this journey, please take the time to see the films and visit all of the areas, including the factory tour where bats are made daily for todays Major Leaguers.
I now have a piece of the museum and baseball history with me. I own my very own Slugger, complete with my signature and made with the same top wood grain that the professionals use. I make sure to keep it by the phone just in case I get "the call" from the Reds.
