The Parthenon In Nashville?
January 29th 2010 06:30
Don't have the time or money to visit the ancient ruins in Greece? Did you know that you can see a full scale replica of the Parthenon in Nashville, TN. Since it's existence Nashville was known as "The Athens of the South." The town decided to use this theme during the state's centennial celebration in 1896 with the building of the Parthenon, along with 30 or so other Greek inspired buildings. Sadly only the Parthenon remains after a century of change and growth.
Some pictures that I took during a recent trip. The Athena statue stands 42 feet tall and is painted in gold.
