JUST ANOTHER FILM MAKER -- Are you serious!?

How are your projects going?

So Sam

I could write a book. Trying to find a producer definitely has its frustrations. There are those that wear the mantle without having any idea as to what the title means.

Others are too tied up with their own world and their own projects to have time to read something and take an interest in it.

About 30 years ago when I started writing scripts seriously I was focussed on sf. Ben Gannon read two of my scripts and quite liked them, but as he told me at the time, he didn't have any idea of how I could proceed to get them mounted. The only direction he could suggest was to go to the US and hawk the concepts around.

My aim has always been to find a local producer who loves my work and set up an on-going working relationship. It's cheaper here and I reckon we can have one in production and two more in development for the cost of one concept development in the US.

To answer your question, Sam -- so far no progress. Nothing, da nada, zero. But I do have plans.

=============================

Sorry sonny, try the next train. You wanna find a producer? Gee sweet-heart, so do I. (Chewing gum and drinking a screwdriver.) If you find one of the fuckers give me a call, I got a drawer full of scripts waiting for a fairy God-mother. Tell me by the way, do you believe in Santa Clause? There's no such thing as a Sanity Clause!

So I got these scripts see - and I got this idea on how they can be put together see and produced for next to nothing at all. Of course it would mean that we couldn't pay you anything up front, but what the hell, honey you can't have everything, can you babe? (This last from a fat balding, very alcoholic, sun tanned individual wearing an Hawaiian tee shirt, three days growth of beard and halitosis that has a life of its own and can cut you down at fifty feet.)

=============================

Yeah I know. Patrick Dennis said: Life is a banquet and most poor bastards are starving to death.

Look I'm not greedy. Just let me have some of the aperitif and I'll make do for the rest.

Don't get the wrong idea about me, Sam. I am not a whinger. I keep trying. I keep knocking on doors and talking to the bull shit merchants. I mean, what can you do? They say they are interested in being producers. So you put the acid on them and they disappear in a puff of smoke.

I still want to work locally. Most of my projects are set here in Ozstralia, but with themes with universal appeal. In all modesty I can say this without fear of contradiction. I mean, would these lips lie?

Of course Sam, if you wanted to combine with someone on the local scene to help produce one or three of my projects, I could be persuaded. Just a little arm twisting and where do I sign?

Hey maybe there's a movie in there somewhere. Hang on a minute and I'll bang out a script.

Now let's see. What was the question again?

Geeze Sam you must have pressed one of my buttons. But if you want to work in show business, have I got a deal for you? Baby, I can get it for you wholesale.

Show biz -- don't ya love it?

And now ladies an' germs here is Spike Milligan with some calming words: Mogodom, valium, lithium, Temazepam, ---

And the men in white coats hold him gently but firmly as they inject the magic tranquilliser. And he fades into clouds of calm pink skin toned dreams populated by --

Sam are you still there, Sam? Everything is going quite blurry. That woman has nice breasts. I think I want to touch them. Hello young lady. Can I be your friend?

That's enough for now.

(Takes a deep breath. Takes another drink and slips into delirium to dream of women's breasts, pink salmon, walks by the ocean and the babylon of success.)

They're letting me out on the weekend, Sam.

I feel wonderful.

John

PS What was the question again?
