Greyfield Inn on Cumberland Island
January 24th 2010 17:09
There aren't many beach destinations in the U.S. where you can match beautiful beaches with seclusion. One of the few is located along the south-east corner of Georgia's barrier islands. I have long enjoyed Sea and Jekyl island's secluded beauty. President Bush even chose this setting for a G8 summit in 2004.
For even more secluded beauty check out Cumberland Island, the most southern of the barrier paradises.
A ferry takes visitors to the island twice daily as there is no land bridge. There are camping rentals to catch a glimpse of some of the island's wild horses. Bike rentals are also available to expand your glimpse of the 17 mile oasis.
For more elegant accomodations check into the Greyfield Inn. The inn, originally built as a private house in 1900 by Andrew Carnegie, is listed as a top 10 Romantic getaway an one of the 500 most elegant hotels in the world.
A Valentine's weekend might be hard to book, but there is no bad time to experience this amazing destination.
